Northstar Bank Announces Retirement of Bobbie Fisher,
Names Julie Smith Public Funds Officer and Welcomes Todd Sanchez
Northstar Bank announces the upcoming retirement of Bobbie Fisher, Public Funds Officer, following a distinguished 42-year career in banking and dedication to the communities she has served.
Fisher joined Northstar Bank in April 2017 and played a key role in developing and growing the bank’s Public Funds department. Working alongside Julie Smith, Fisher helped establish the program and strengthen relationships with municipalities and public entities throughout our communities.
“Bobbie’s leadership, experience, and dedication to serving our communities have made a lasting impact on Northstar Bank and the public fund partners we serve,” said Debbie Cunningham, President and CEO of Northstar Bank. “She helped build a strong foundation for our Public Funds program, and we are grateful for the relationships she has developed throughout her career.”
Fisher began her banking career in 1980 as a summer intern at Bank of the Commonwealth in downtown Detroit. She returned to banking in 1984 at Sanilac County Bank, where she spent 16 years advancing through roles including bookkeeping, drive-in supervisor, assistant branch manager, and branch manager. She later served as manager of deposit operations at Citizens First before returning to branch leadership and was named Public Funds Officer at Talmer Bank in 2013. In 2017, she joined Northstar Bank to help establish and grow the bank’s Public Funds department.
Reflecting on her career, Fisher said she has worn many hats throughout her time in banking and witnessed many changes within the industry.
“I never looked at banking as just a job — I always saw it as a career,” Fisher said. “I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built with the Public Funds department at Northstar Bank and grateful for the relationships I’ve formed along the way.”
Following Fisher’s retirement, Julie Smith will step into the role of Public Funds Officer, continuing to serve Northstar Bank’s public funds customers.
“Bobbie has been a wonderful mentor and partner in building our Public Funds department,” Smith said. “I’m honored to continue the work we’ve started and remain committed to serving our public funds partners and communities.”
Todd Sanchez will join the Public Funds team, stepping into Smith’s previous role and supporting Northstar Bank’s public funds relationships.
Fisher looks forward to the next chapter with her husband, John, who also plans to retire soon. The couple plans to move to Florida and spend more time boating and enjoying the outdoors, while continuing to return to Michigan to enjoy the summers.
